The 5th Sterkies speed event took place this past Sunday and Monday at Sterkfontein Dam near Harrismith, and we had gale force and 50 knot peak speeds on both days.
The event aims to introduce kiters to speed and foster them to progress to the next level.
The speeds of competitors have rapidly improved since inception; 35 knots was the peak speed that won the event in 2008, now it's more than 10 knots faster on average !
